Cabletron Speeds Up Internet Applications Using Maker's MXT4400 Traffic
Stream Processor

GENEVA, Oct 11, 1999 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Telecom'99-(Booth
1111)--Cabletron Systems (NYSE:CS) today announced a partnership with
Maker Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:MAKR) in the development of
high-speed Wide Area Network (WAN) interfaces for Cabletron's
award-winning SmartSwitch Router (SSR) family.

Under the partnership, Cabletron will utilize the Maker MXT4400 Traffic
Stream processor (TSP), a programmable engine ideally suited for
high-speed Internet services. The TSP Family will lower the cost of
development for interfaces ranging from T3 to OC-48 speeds, and will
provide advanced traffic management and internetworking services.

"The SmartSwitch Router is being deployed widely in Internet Service
Provider (ISP) networks. The adoption of the MXT4400 further
demonstrates Cabletron's commitment to deliver industry-leading
solutions with features such as traffic shaping that enhance ISP's
service delivery capabilities," said PG Menon, senior director of
product marketing at Cabletron Systems.

The MXT4400 TSP delivers the performance of ASIC-based implementations
and provides traffic shaping features that are critical for controlling
traffic on the Internet. Cabletron's partnership with Maker
Communications underscores its commitment to take a leadership position
in the Internet aggregation market for multi-service routers.

"We are pleased that Cabletron Systems has adopted the MXT4400 TSP for
the SmartSwitch Router platform," said Tom Medrek, vice president of
marketing at Maker Communications. "The MXT4400 allows companies such
as Cabletron to deliver routing solutions and a more capable generation
of Internet backbone products."
