Interesting how a charitable company is backing a deal for slot machines. Even more interesting, and bizarre, is that US Guarantee also backed a woman who tried to buy the Minnesota Vikings football team!
----------
LAS VEGAS (The Associated Press 06-23-1998 13:44 EDT) -- A Las Vegas woman has made a $180 million bid to buy the Minnesota Vikings, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Tuesday.
The newspaper said a representative for Shruti Misra confirmed the offer. The 31-year-old woman has real estate holdings in Nevada, California and New Mexico. She is expected to learn by early next month whether her bid will be accepted.
[edit]
Documents obtained by the Review-Journal indicate Misra would pay $50 million cash, with the remaining $130 million to be financed through a loan provided by U.S. Guarantee Corp., a Nevada corporation based in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The chief financial officer at the Arizona company, Stephen Hammer, refused to discuss Misra's financial background, other than to say she could afford the deal.

The Las Vegas Sun proved this was a SCAM, and Misra and her husband were worth a mere $37,530!
Shruti Misra, the Las Vegan trying to buy the Minnesota Vikings, claims to be worth $5.1 billion and have $2.4 billion in precious metals stored in a Las Vegas warehouse, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Sunday.
Experts today were intrigued by the report, which if true would be extraordinary. It would mean the relatively unknown Misra is worth more than casino moguls Steve Wynn, Sheldon Adelson and Donald Trump.
It would place her in the same league as Kirk Kerkorian, who owns most of the MGM Grand hotel-casino and studio. Kerkorian was included this month on Forbes' list of the world's richest billionaires -- Misra was not listed.
It would mean her precious metals holdings -- said by the R-J to be in a Las Vegas warehouse -- are worth more than the entire annual production of Nevada gold and silver mines. Nevada leads the nation in gold production.
Precious metals experts are aware of no secure location in Las Vegas for that much gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals. Misra could not be reached for comment today.

Clark County District Court records show that Shruti Misra and her husband, Anil Gupta, were involved in at least nine lawsuits that were filed between 1992 and 1997.
Even without his myriad lawsuits, Gupta has spent considerable time in Clark County District Court.
Gupta was arrested on four counts of theft in 1994 for shady real estate deals in which he sold secured deeds of trust worth $86,000 to properties he knew were about to be foreclosed. He also sold interests in other properties twice over.
He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft, a gross misdemeanor. He was fined $2,000 and paid retribution. Before sentencing, however, Gupta could not afford the $12,000 bail.
Gupta also filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year, claiming liabilities of $991,265 and assets of $37,530.

According to records from the Maricopa, AZ Recorder's office, Mr. Alvin A. Tang had a string of civil judgments against him in 1987 and 1988. It appears he failed to make good on several of these because there were a bunch of judgment renewals filed against him in the mid 90s. For example, here's one for $341,640.96 from First American Title Insurance: recorder.maricopa.gov
However, my favorite Tang judgment is the one for $3,010,000 for what looks like a bogus land deal: recorder.maricopa.gov
See the referenced post for additional Tang lawsuits.
