David an i960 on the PC motherboard is not far-fetched at all.

Allen reported(post #346) the following quote from Mark Murphy of the California Technology Stock Letter:

"Intel's next generation architecture for the desktop, the
Advanced Connected PC, will incorporate an exploding number of input &
output modes ranging from large databases and ATM communications to
audio and full-motion 3-D graphics. Intel's solution is to distribute I/O
management to one or more i960RP processors on the motherboard, and ."

Anything is possible.

I am a bit surprised that the server adapter Intel plans to begin shipping on 16 April is using the i960RP. My understanding from a previous post is that the i960RD is replacing the i960RP and offers a considerable performance increase. Not that it matters. WIND probably
gets the same fee for either.
