This battle originated in the US.

CA was on the path to bankruptcy, US, AMR and UAL or not.
This prompted the Canadian government to once more come to their rescue as they have done many times before.

It might help you at night to think you are saving the country from those ugly americans by not tending your shares, but that has little to with what originated the Onex proposal.

Undoubtedly, AMR stands to benefit if the merger goes through, just like UAL would if it doesn't. But don't be mistaken, the talks are first and foremost about whether the merger deal makes financial sense to all parties involved. Certainly Onex will be the big winners, but AC shareholders will, in all likelihood, end with 50-70% more money than what they had back in August.
