Shh! I'm talking to my microwave.
I predict one of the new products soon to hit the market will be a combo appliance that is both a small refrigerator and a microwave oven.
Can you imagine taking pieces of chicken breast out of the freezer in the AM and having them cooked and ready to eat when you get home in the evening? The meat is kept safely stored at low temperature during the day then defrosted and cooked to be ready when you get home after work. And all of this done in a 'smart' appliance controllable by voice commands from your mobile phone.
Whatta' life!

Using Sun's Jini(TM) Technology, Oracle Transforms Wireless Devices Into The Remote Control of Your Life
Oracle(R) Portal-to-Go Allows Mobile Phones to Interact with Jini-enabled Devices
GENEVA, TELECOM'99, Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The number one choice in e-business, Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq: ORCL - news) demonstrated the future of wireless environments at Telecom'99 by combining the capabilities of Oracle© Portal- to-Go and Sun's Jini(TM) technology. In an industry first, Oracle showcased the ability to use a mobile phone as a remote control for Jini technology- enabled devices such as VCRs, printers, lights and coffee machines. Wireless carriers can allow their customers to access and control these Jini technology-enabled network devices while away from home using any type of mobile phone or other wireless device. Oracle announced Portal-to-Go today at the Telecom'99.
For the first time, Oracle's new Oracle Portal-to-Go adapter, enabled with Jini technology, makes any device on a Jini network accessible via any mobile phone. This includes the current installed base of 300 million cellular phones via VoXML, Motorola's voice markup language. This means a user could control different Jini technology-enabled devices simply by speaking into a phone.
``Using Jini technology with Oracle Portal-to-Go, Oracle is helping increase the intelligence of devices and the freedom of wireless users to access these devices anytime, anywhere from their mobile phones,' said Mike Clary, vice president and general manager, Consumer and Embedded, Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW - news). ``The combination of the technologies will unleash the wireless capabilities of spontaneous networking.'
In the emerging networked home environment, Sun's Jini technology will allow household and office appliances such as light switches, security systems, VCRs, printers, coffee machines and dishwashers to be accessed and controlled over a network. For example, a user with a Jini technology-enabled VCR could program it while away from home to record a favorite show, or order the Jini technology-enabled garage door to close if it was left open.
``Jini technology and Oracle Portal-to-Go combine to effectively create a remote control in your mobile phone for accessing appliances on the Jini network,' said Denise Lahey, vice president of the Mobile and Embedded Products Division at Oracle Corp. ``Wireless carriers will be able to offer a new range of value-added services that keep mobile users in touch with their home and office environments.'
The Oracle Portal-to-Go and Sun Jini technology demonstration can be seen this week in the Sun Microsytems' booth (Hall 4, Booth 4263) at Telecom'99 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Jini technology enables devices to participate in a network regardless of the underlying software or hardware. Serving as a constitution for network devices, Jini technology sets up basic rules for how to connect to the network, share information, and interact - while remaining transparent to the user. Because Jini technology is platform-independent, devices are no longer limited by specific brands of software, processors, device drivers or traditional networking protocols.
