MobileIP has nothing to do with EDGE. EDGE is USING mobile IP. EDGE is a RADIO Protocol and Mobile IP is a way of assigning IP addresses on the fly. Any radio protocol can use MobileIP. MobileIP is the way the net will work in the future. Alot like your phone number works today. You will be able to send and rec email to your IP once you register. Your phone will register once you have started it and notify the network that your IP is in a certain cell, then any info directed to your IP will find you by a router and be delivered. Today the IP works only after you have established a session and done a series of IP exchanges to get your info.
