12/10/99 15:21:59 Army Ousted from Mobile Market China's People's Liberation Army will be banned from offering commercial cellular services, according to top telecom officials attending Telecom 99. The PLA had been hoping to build a national cdmaOne network to rival the new system being deployed by China United Telecommunications Corp (Unicom). Liu Cai, director general of policy at the Ministry of Information Industry said the PLA's four trial networks in Beijing, Shanghai, Xian and Guangzhou would be used for private network purposes only by the PLA, while part-owner China Telecom will divest its interest.
