<<Some of this is no doubt in preparation for their foray into consumer PCs. As I have pointed out earlier, the consumer business is a lot different than the BTO business DELL has been in, and benefits from large production runs where component costs are minimized and
production efficiency is maximized.>>
Good post Dog. To continue into the future, there has been
unprecedented demand for computers/technology to the extent
component makers are strained to keep up. And Dell growing at several
times the industry rate, has to look ahead to a tripling
or quadrupling of output rather than a mere 100%.
Some smaller, less stable companies who were past suppliers to Dell
must get their act together, make plant investments and commitments
or will get left out in the cold and be replaced by those who
are able and willing to produce the quantities required to keep up with Michael(G).
Recently the "deals" have become so large (bils and years)
they are getting publicized, and help fill in the picture
of what Dell can become when those square miles of building
sites in 5 countries are fully developed and manned.
Regards
Sig (hoping not to offend any desperate gold-hoarding,
bears)
