I think people are referring to moves such as selling large blocks under the bid to purposely "spook" a downtrend to "shakeout" the weak longs and people with close stops. Then come right back in, scooping up the "cheap" shares when the seller originally had no bad info or reason to sell so low. All the while increasing the original sellers position without arousing interest. I know this sort of thing would not be illegal or anything. I just think sometimes the little guy really gets stuck in the short term and almost has to set stops really low or not at all and have an iron clad stomach and nerves of steel to stick with a stock they really are behind.

Just an amateur opinion,

Besides, sometimes its comforting to blame some greater force for your troubles. But, not what a dicsiplined investor should indulge in for sure.
