RS--Can you explain to me the advantage Teledesic might provide over a broadband geostationary system?

Sorry if this is very basic, but I've idly watched (and done no study) of Teledesic for seems-like years now, and I just don't see how they fit in between G*/Voice sats and the geos. Especially given the cost.
