MYPT spends 1,423% more to increase membership by 3 mil. over 1998. MYPT acquired members in the $14 million purchase of Experian members in December 1998. MYPT has also increased its marketing expense 700% over 1998 to about another $14 million. So to generate a 273% increase in members it had to spend 1423% more or it needs to spend 5 times more than it increases membership. In other words, it cost $28 million to generate about $7 million in revenue and that doesn't even include all their other overhead. This cost will only increase as competition heats up with Cybergold, Netcentives, and others. No wonder this company will never make a profit.
