Bob Bishop, writing in Fax-Alert No. 146 on Sept. 28, says that while he
does not plan to cover oil and gas companies in his newsletter in the
future, he does want to mention Robert Friedland's Ivanhoe Energy. The
company gets favourable mention. Mr. Bishop notes that Ivanhoe has broad
exposure to the Bakersfield energy play through a deal with Mobil and
Shell; Aera is the name of the majors' operating company. The editor of
Gold Mining Stock Report also notes that his old friend Mr. Friedland hired
the management team that built Occidental Petroleum, with the hope the team
will repeat its earlier success. Mr. Friedland amalgamated Black Sea Energy
and Sunwing Energy to form Ivanhoe Energy. Mr. Bishop says the Bakersfield
play is capable of making gold's Carlin trend in Nevada "look like chump
change," adding that while the play has not yet fully established itself,
that time is fast approaching. Mr. Bishop says he plans to discontinue his
newsletter next July.
