Rambi, you wonder about prayer as part of the culture of sport.

Many find sporting contests symbolic of war. Not unusual for combatants to ask God's help and protection on eve of battle. Theatre and choir, to my knowledge, not symbolic of war (or competition). Now if there was some kind of contest involving many choirs, it would hardly surprise me if a "prayer" popped up.

Think again if you believe professional sport is strictly a private affair. Generally speaking, taxpayers subsidize the hell out of private sport. There are sweetheart tax deals, land deals, stadium funding, road improvements, construction and on and on....

I pray daily but never "for" anything specific. I may "remember" someone or thing in praying, but mainly (for me) it's simply an act of humility and a chance to be thankful.
If there's a God who "hears" prayers, I figure that God is better at deciding who or what deserves the benefit of my devotion, more than me.

Curious about your reaction to these thoughts. I will repost on DAR later, if you only dropped in here for a short visit.

Mike
