Thank you for your thoughtful response, Michael. Let's see-----

Many find sporting contests symbolic of war.

Accepting that this may be true, does that justify the continuation of prayer as some sort of meaningless ritualistic ingredient of the program? The equivalent of "Break a leg" in theatre, or "merde, merde, merde," in opera, or crossing oneself before diving into the water? If it is more than ritual, it then becomes invasive proselytizing.

I still believe that professional sports are private in a way that schools most certainly aren't. Pro teams are owned by individuals, and tax dollars are business investments in them with the hopes of economically benefiting a city. A far cry from the heavy responsibility of educating impressionable young minds.

If there's a God...
yes--- well there it is... I agree--- what I feel, believe, think, pretend, assume... it's just not something I'm willing to inflict on others, nor am I willing to allow others to in any way pressure my children into their belief frameworks. I reserve that right for myself as parent.
(And you may wonder exactly what kind of job I did if you look at my elder son's website, which has famous quotes of atheists cycling through it every ten minutes!)
