Andrew Acquires Chesapeake Microwave Technologies, Inc.
ORLAND PARK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1999--

--Acquisition Adds High Power GaAs Technology To Energize
Andrew Corporation's RF and Microwave Amplifiers
Andrew Corporation (NASDAQ: ANDW) has acquired Chesapeake Microwave Technologies, Inc., (CMTI) a privately-owned company that designs and develops RF and microwave amplifiers and assemblies.

Chesapeake has unique design and manufacturing expertise in high power GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) and silicon power transistor technology. High power GaAs technology offers significant advantages for cellular, PCS, and GSM markets by improving the linearity and reliability of RF and microwave amplifiers.

"Power amplifiers are required by the wireless communications base station for transmission of the RF signal to the subscriber unit," said Dave Tennant, vice president, Andrew Corporation. "By acquiring Chesapeake, we have energized and broadened our amplifier product line to include world class, high performance, ultra-reliable and extremely efficient single and multicarrier power amplifiers. Chesapeake's technological capabilities and manufacturing knowledge of wireless amplification and conversion will give Andrew a significant advantage in the power amplifier marketplace."

"High power, reliability, and ease-of-use are our product design watchwords," said Paul White, founder and chief technical officer of Chesapeake. "Adding Chesapeake's amplifier product development capacity to the manufacturing and distribution capabilities of Andrew creates a major force in the worldwide RF power amplifier market."

Chesapeake's facility in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, occupies 12,500 square feet of space and is dedicated to power amplifier research and development. The company has 50 employees, who will become Andrew personnel.

Andrew Corporation is a global supplier of communications systems equipment and services. Major markets are wireless communications -- which includes cellular, personal communications services, and land mobile radio -- broadcast, and common carrier.
