steve - <"The advance transfer cache will improve the performance by about 10 percent," said Brookwood. "They [Coppermine and Athlon] will be very close." >

Somebody has been saying this for a while now.

I only bring this up because until just last week, there was a big contingent that just knew conventional wisdom dictated that the 5 year old PPro core couldn't possibly compete with K7 clock for clock.

<Coppermine, however, will fall behind Athlon if Intel is unable to pair it with next-generation Rambus memory. Some estimate that Rambus memory won't hit PCs until November at the earliest.">

We'll see who's the fastest on the 25th.

You are not taking one factor into your equation. I'm not going to spell it out for various reasons. The information is out there.

To reiterate what I've been saying, it will be close. I don't believe K7 to be a runaway product performance wise.
