Chris - Take a deep breath. Good.

Intel screwed up the third quarter by:
Gumming up the Camino launch.
Gumming up the new multiway Xeon offering
Miscalculating on chip set demand

With all that they missed their bogey by $.02 per share. They GREW. They didn't grow as much as they anticipated and analysts anticipated.

Will they fix the Camino. Yup.
Will they fix the multiway Xeon. Yup.
Will they miscalculate on future chip set demand. Probably, but not as badly.

In the meantime they "suffered" a mere $1.9 Billion profit for the quarter. They guided toward higher margins and maybe even higher ASPs next quarter. Their investments in the comm area will start to kick in. What an unmitigated tragedy. Yeah, it's disappointing not to meet expectations. That is particularly true for a company with a remarkable record of getting things pretty consistently for that long a period. Is a bounce down in the stock price the logical result of this quarter's results likely. It's already happened and it's deserved. Is this the pattern for the future? I don't think so.
