Well, during its heyday, Athens was the place to go for a higher education, and even during the early Roman Empire, it was a coup to be educated there, as was, for example, Cicero. Socrates was an inspiration to several of the schools of philosophy that arose after his death, including the Stoics and the Cynics, and the Socratic dialogue became a distinct literary form, although only the dialogues of Plato and Xenophon have come down to us. So yes, within the stricture that what we think of as the classic period was short- lived, and gave way to the Hellenistic period of Alexander (himself taught by Aristotle), the classical Greeks influenced the classical Greeks.....
