Tellium Makes Reliable Network Management Easy
OCEANPORT, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1999--Tellium, Inc., the only company currently shipping optical switches, announced today the availability of Tellium's element management system, Gemini.
Gemini provides network operators the robust software necessary to run a mission-critical telecommunications network, with a user-friendly interface that provides management of a network without the complexity.
``In today's optical network, carriers need reliable, accurate software, yet provides the flexibility to employ less technical staff to manage their network," said Richard Barcus, president of Tellium. ``Gemini allows carriers to monitor Aurora optical switches and other mission critical applications with Windows NT's user friendly interface. Thanks to the user-friendly nature of Gemini, carriers can free network engineers to do mission critical tasks, while other technical staff manage configuration, performance and security.'
Gemini supports the traditional management capabilities of fault management, configuration management, accounting management, performance management, and security management. In addition, it provides the capability to operate, administer, maintain and provision the entire optical network not just a series of network elements.
``The Gemini Element Management System coupled with our Aurora Optical Switches turns provisioning of the optical layer into a fast, automated, point and click operation and eliminates the current 10 -15 week lead time for carriers to deliver optical services,' said Nick DeVito director of marketing and product management at Tellium. ``In addition, our fault management capabilities and our StarNet restoration algorithms reduce operations costs by deferring maintenance activities to the next business day.'
Gemini provides an open management interface to upstream network management systems through northbound CORBA/IDL interfaces while using standard TCP/IP connections to communicate with switching network elements. Built for deployment in mission critical 7 X 24 operations, Gemini is scalable and configurable for high availability and redundant configurations.
