Funny - when I read the NE excerpt, I assumed the 'defective self-restraint' was thought to be defective in being too strong a self-restraint, not too weak. May well be nothing but a personal bias, as sometimes I suffer one of both 'illnesses' ... so, I guess, the original greek word here is not a form of 'idiot' ? (You see, my partial knowledge of modern Greek is much to small to predict the correct form of ancient Greek words, so I just use the English form). Regards MNI.
