USA Video Interactive Joins Sun Microsystems and Other Technology Leaders in Education Marketing Initiative MYSTIC, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1999--USA Video Interactive (NASD:USVO - news; ASE:US - news; www.usvo.com) has joined with Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:SUNW - news; www.sun.com) and other leading technology companies to develop and market technology to the K-12 education community. USA Video Interactive is among about a dozen companies that have joined together as founding members of and to serve on the Board of the SchoolTone Alliance program. The other members of the Board and additional details will be announced in November at the National School Board Association meeting in Dallas.
The SchoolTone Alliance Program was started by Sun to share and develop innovative technologies, and to provide the highest quality web-based applications and solutions to the global K-12 educational community at substantial savings compared to traditional education business models.
''This is an outstanding opportunity for USA Video Interactive to bring our streaming video technology to the K-12 community, providing low-cost access to the highest quality in a variety of Internet and intranet applications,'' said Edwin Molina, President of USA Video Interactive. ''By joining with the other technology partners in the Alliance, we can bring digital Video-on-Demand(TM) services to the millions of classroom users who don't yet have access to high bandwidth, yet our technology is completely scalable to take full advantage of future developments. This opens the door to making the exciting world of streaming video available to virtually anyone with a computer and an Internet connection.''
About the SchoolTone Alliance: Created by Sun Microsystems, the SchoolTone Alliance Program brings together the best web-based educational content, portal technologies, applications and solutions, and education service providers specializing in meeting the needs of the K-12 educational market world-wide. The program is based on a new computing model emerging in today's education marketplace to take advantage of the power of the Internet and network computing: the Education Portal. The Education Portal optimizes the use of the Internet to cost-effectively and securely deliver curriculum, administrative content, digital libraries and communications tools to K-12 institutions worldwide. Thus, schools and school systems can be provided with access to, and use of, sophisticated computer and learning applications and solutions, saving millions of dollars in licensing and service fees. Users may simply pay a transaction or monthly usage fee instead of purchasing, upgrading, or maintaining new hardware and software applications, thereby eliminating the need for extensive IT support staff at schools. The SchoolTone Alliance Program is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, with member and affiliate offices located around the world.
