ACTIVE ASSETS OPENS LATIN AMERICAN OFFICES
VANCOUVER - October 13, 1999 - Active Assets & Associates Inc. (VSE: AAA) announces today the opening of its first two offices in Latin America. The offices are located in Mexico City, Mexico and Caracas, Venezuela.
The Mexico City office is located in the heart of that city?s industrialized centre, and will have jurisdiction over Mexico and Central America. Active Asset?s V.P. of Business Development for Latin America, Eng. Pedro Garcia, is heading the Mexico City office where a team of company employees is, in cooperation with the chamber of commerce of Mexico, compiling a database of Mexican corporations that could potentially use the web-based auction site to acquire or dispose of industrial equipment or excess inventory. There are currently in excess of 650,000 active corporations registered in Mexico and Central America.
The head of the ActiveAsset?s Caracas office, Dr. Concepcion Suarez, is a director of the Venezuelan association of chambers of commerce, and has held many positions as an officer and director in multiple international and local trade and industry organizations. From the Caracas office, Dr. Suarez is overseeing the creation of the database for Venezula and Colombia, as well as the registration of all companies that could take advantage of our web services. There are in excess of 300,000 corporations in Venezuela and Colombia that are being targeted.
Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia form the G3 trade pact, a trade pact created to facilitate trade between the parties by reducing or eliminating import duties. The G3 countries currently import in excess of $50 billion in machinery and equipment.
Other initiatives are being undertaken in other areas of Latin America and in Europe - we will report on these developments in due course.
