Comparing to Taiwan, China fails in every aspects after 50 years.
Some would say China now is similar to Taiwan in 70's . It will catch up in the future.
I would say no!
Just looking at post after post defending any criticism against China by "patriots", I cannot find any introspective posts. Taiwan can become a democracy because it can accept criticism when it is justified.
The usual defense for China: China now is actually free and blah, blah, blah…
Yeah, only if you are not jailed dissidents or oppressed minorities.
Taiwan used to have the same problem, but by efforts and sacrifices from countless civil rights fighters we achieved democracy.
On the other hand, you find very few ,other than Wang Dan and Wei jing-seng(sic),dare to challenge Communist government.
My impression is that Chinese are too selfish to sacrifice.
Another common defense: Why criticize China? USA had done the same if not worse.
Of course every countries had done something bad in their history.
But humanity is everyone's goal. Why not to even try to achieve moral high ground? Instead just defending China's bad acts.
Some even said American-genocide-to-Indians gave China's justification to kill Tibetans.
The prior is wrong , so is the latter. At least some American try to right the wrong. Where is Chinese's conscience?
Some mentioned Taiwan belongs to China because of history.
Chinese history is notoriously distorted and manipulated.It is prescription rather than description.
Tibet ,for example, at best had been colonized by China. Taiwan for less than 10 years. Shouldn't British reclaim all its colonies by same reasoning?
More importantly, if China shuffle its value into Tibetans, why can other countries do the same to China?
I am especially disappointed in some Chinese in America. As a minority in America who should have better empathy to the counterparts in China. Don't they learn anything good from America? How about protecting the weak, helping the helpless, respecting the minorities?
