I agree. Buy recommendations are written up when stocks have gone up substantially and sell recommendations usually when the shares have tanked already. The analysts' opinions are reported through channels like CNBC and their impact is then, of course, amplified. There is nothing like great exposure over the TV networks for a stock to either go up or down further which I think is working in some people's favour. I used to work for DW nine years ago and I remember a clear pattern existed for most recommendations.
