So this is where all the civilized people went....

When I lived in a semi-elite subdivision in Manila the adults didn't seem so visibly conscious of the pecking order, at least in public. Where you saw it was in the kids. By the time they were 4 they knew which house cost more, which car was cool, etc, etc. Which gives you a good idea of what the adults talked about at home.

I was glad to get out of there.
