Rhythms NetConnections, PSINet Deliver DSL Solutions; Leading DSL-Based Networking Provider Joins Forces With First Commercial ISP
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Rhythms NetConnections Inc. (Nasdaq: RTHM - news), a leading provider of high-performance networking solutions for distributed networks and applications, and PSINet Inc. (Nasdaq: PSIX - news), the first and largest facilities-based, commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP), today announced a partnership to offer Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service in seven markets.

''PSINet is an ideal partner for Rhythms as we execute our vision of offering multiple services over our high-performance, business-class network,'' said Richard H. Johnston, Rhythms chief sales officer for channels. ''A recognized leader in the ISP industry, PSINet will help Rhythms reach additional customers.''

Beginning in December, Rhythms and PSINet will offer services in Cleveland-Akron, Columbus, Indianapolis, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Greater Connecticut, Milwaukee, and Salt Lake City.

''Rhythms' ability to provide enhanced, reliable applications on top of a DSL circuit will help us give our customers the type of speed and support they are looking for,'' said Charles Cary, PSINet's vice president of product management and deployment. ''In addition, Rhythms' extensive footprint increases our DSL reach.''

The partnership will provide customers with multiple services over integrated broadband connections. Rhythms provides a robust suite of services over a single connection, creating the framework for a single telecommunications network for businesses, teleworkers and remote offices. The company's ability to offer multiple transport technologies provides customers with the most economic options to meet their growing business demands.

PSINet chose Rhythms because of Rhythms' network reliability and flexible solutions, as well as its broad North American footprint. Rhythms' offerings empower ISPs to provide their customers with the best DSL-based service available.

Rhythms provides managed network services for business and enterprise users, based on ''always on'' DSL connections ranging in speeds from 128 kbps to 7.1 Mbps (approximately 125 times the speed of today's fastest dial-up modem).

Rhythms plans to provide service in 33 metropolitan areas by the end of 1999 and expects expansion to reach 50 metropolitan areas by the end of 2000.

Rhythms NetConnections Inc. (Nasdaq: RTHM - news) is a leading provider of high-performance networking solutions for distributed networks and applications. Rhythms was chosen by FORTUNE magazine as one of its ''Cool Companies for 1999.'' Based in Englewood, Colorado, Rhythms currently serves 28 markets, covering 48 MSAs.
