"Does that make sense?" You darn right it does. I also check the bollinger bands and the recent share trade volume. When a stock like Cymer rises to about 6 points on no significant news, besides SI thread enthusiasm its time to write the call. If Cymi hits 40 around the earning date and everyone swears that its going to 50 write the 40's or the 45's.

The best covered call write is NVLS last month the stock was 12 points out of the money (below the strike) and the covered call for the same month was worth 2 1/2. But it takes more money to play with that stock and Cymer is fine for cheap thrills.
