What I do in this case is SELL them electronically, and before the end of the trading day, call my brokerage firm and tell them to write up the confirmation with the vs purchase date information on which lot I am selling.

Works fine.

I account in Quicken for the sales based on the lot I told them about, and I have the confirm in writing if challenged.
