Re: benchmark mess...

The athlon is at least competitive with Coppermine when Athlon is running:

100MHZ ram
1/3 speed L2 cache
a rock solid stable but slow chipset.

Coppermine can almost keep up but it's running:
400MHZ ram (expensive, stability and availability problems)
full speed level 2 cache (which may put a brick wall in the way of clock increases)
a fast but not very stable chipset

In 3 months:
Athlon moves to 200 and 266MHZ ram
1/2 speed L2 (why put a full speed cache brick wall in your way if you don't need it?)
Faster chipsets and multiprocessor chipsets.

The new year is going to be a challenge for Intel, and AMD is going to be able to make money.
