Actually, I am missing the reason why AMD should own flash. There is very little synergy between the processor business and flash business either on the operations side or the customer side.

AMD flash business is extremely well respected, last time I checked a close second to Intel in revenues, a spin-off will be a bonanza to stock holders. The memory group (of which Flash is the largest part) is expected to do about ~750M this year. As a stand alone play, in today's environment, I predict that this memory company would be worth more than the current AMD stock price.

I would like to hear why it makes sense to have these two disparate businesses together.
