Earnings do come out tomorrow AFTER the close. Perhaps Cowen & Co. did not adjust their numbers to represent the huge back log in pending orders. It appears that after talking to the company, the analysts felt it was necessary to raise his estimate BOTH for the quarter and for the year. It sounds very BULLISH to me.

We should begin to see some new revenue sources hit the books. In particular, I believe SUNW will be shipping the first batch of set-top boxes next quarter. These shipments will begin to ramp up and by the middle of next year it should begin to contribute to overall revenues.

Also, we will want to see how their storage division is doing as I believe they had to re-write a lot of the micro code to make their systems cross-platform compatible. They inked a deal with Storage Technology a few months back but STK reported yesterday that they will miss their earnings and revenue numbers. I hope they have some positive results to report in this high growth area.

There was one statement this AM by the COWEN analyst. That was, SUNW must deliver on their next generation SPARC chip on schedule. The Cowen analyst felt that because of the competitive (microprocessor) environment, there is no margin for any "significant" delay. I believe SUNW had previously stated that they were ahead of schedule on it's development and prototypes of the new SPARC chip were in process.

There is still a lot of work to get a "prototype" design into a manufacturing run with above average yields. Just ask AMD.
