Quepasa.com and Gloria Estefan to Announce Community and Education Initiative; Press Conference To Be Held Thursday, October 21st in Spanish Harlem

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 1999--Quepasa.com (Nasdaq: PASA), the premier online community for the U.S. Hispanic market and Grammy(R) Award winner Gloria Estefan will hold a press conference at Casita Corsi in New York City's Spanish Harlem on Thursday, October 21, at 10:30 am to announce a major community and education initiative for Hispanics in economically challenged areas. In addition to this announcement, further details will be given surrounding the upcoming Gloria Estefan 2000 US Tour, officially sponsored by quepasa.com.

Quepasa.com CEO Gary Trujillo and Gloria Estefan, quepasa.com's spokesperson and investor, will be on hand at Casita Corsi, which is located at 307 East 116th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. The children of Casita Maria Community Center, who will be the first beneficiaries of the program, will also attend. As part of quepasa.com's and Gateway, Inc.'s common goal to provide computers and internet service to the US Hispanic community, Gateway, Inc. will donate its computer products to the Casita Maria organization. The press conference, initially slated for September 15, was rescheduled due to Hurricane Floyd.

"The truth is that a lot of Hispanics will be left out of the Internet revolution unless organizations like quepasa.com and role models like Gloria Estefan take leadership positions and make a commitment to this under-served community," said quepasa.com CEO Gary Trujillo. "We look forward to announcing more details about our groundbreaking nationwide effort to give Hispanics the power to shape their own destiny through education and information."

As part of the ongoing initiative beginning in New York City, quepasa.com and the Gloria Estefan Foundation will initially donate computers and Internet training to Hispanic community-based organizations and its members. Over the next 12 months the initiative will roll out across Hispanic communities in major U.S. cities like Phoenix, San Antonio, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami. The education initiative will run in conjunction with Gloria's 2000 U.S. Tour.

"Quepasa.com and I feel very strongly that the Internet should be available to as many Hispanic families in the U.S. as possible and we should work together towards this end," said Gloria Estefan.

Gary Trujillo added, "I invite other organizations and companies to join quepasa.com in our mission."

The goal of the computer and education initiative is to empower Hispanics by giving them the tools they need to become full participants in the information age. Quepasa.com will partner with schools and community-based organizations that encourage the professional development of Hispanics and introduce new computer technology to areas where it would otherwise be unaffordable.
