Leading Data CLEC to Combine Broadband Access With Satellite Broadcast

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- NorthPoint Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NPNT - news) today announced a strategic partnership with iBEAM Broadcasting of Sunnyvale, California, to bring high-quality streaming content over digital subscriber line (DSL) technology to its Internet and other network service provider partners and end users in 28 major U.S. markets.
NorthPoint, a leading competitive local exchange carrier, will accept Internet content beamed from iBEAM's satellites directly to its DSL network, enabling businesses and residential customers to enjoy enhanced streaming media over the Internet. In addition to enhanced image and sound quality, NorthPoint's alliance with iBEAM will enable its ISP and other service provider partners to achieve greater network efficiencies when delivering content to their customers.
