India's Foreign Minister, Jaswant Singh, has said Delhi will continue to try to build a domestic political consensus around the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, despite the failure of the United States Senate to ratify it.

India strongly opposed the treaty as it was being negotiated, but after testing its own nuclear devices a year and a half ago, started working towards adhering to at least some of its terms.

Indian opinion on the CTBT will also be guided by what is happening in neighbouring Pakistan........
