Katherine,

I'm not sure Steve had a question as much as a desire to see all of MTSN's products featured all of the time at SemiconductorOnline.

Come to think of it, that's an outstanding suggestion. Think of all the MTSN fanatics that your site would attract. ;-)

[Just Joking, really!]

To thread,

Some very encouraging comments for the industry outlook in KLAC's earnings call this morning.

Highlights:

Substantial backlog built during the Quarter;
Just shy of an all time record.

New Fabs in Taiwan and Europe represent 67% of total orders.

Continued sequential revenue growth for the next several quarters is expected. In addition, backlog will continue to grow sharply.

This rally started with the communications sector and has now extended to the PC segment as well.

Customers will see about 15% Revenue growth in 1999.

During 2000, 11 new fabs plus 13 expansions are expected for a total of 24 major activities going on. This compares with only 7 for all of 1999. [i.e. More than 3 times the number of fabs next year.]

In addition there are about 10 Cu Development fabs for FY00.

DRAM guys making good progress in transition to 0.18µ production. Now developing 0.15µ.
Logic showing signs of improvement, still have some challenges.

300mm development work increasing. lot of process development work expected during 2000.

Cu development yields are acceptable. Production yields are still low.

Mask business is flat. Data storage still in a slump.

WFR capacity is pretty well used up. ASPs increasing. Growth expected.

Semiconductor sector is expected to provide strong growth for at least the next 2 quarters for sure.

++++++

Ian.
