Jump to first matched term
PLEASANTON, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 14, 1999--Safeway Inc. and the KlaasKids Foundation have teamed up this Fall to present child safety events at Safeway stores throughout Northern California. The program, designed to promote awareness and education for children and parents in an effort to protect children against violence, successfully reached over 32,500 children to date. Using state-of-the-art digital equipment developed by Sentry Technology, Inc. children are fingerprinted and photographed without the use of ink or film. This sophisticated equipment is able to produce viable prints on children as young as two-weeks old.
The KlaasKids Child ID program will be featured at the Safeway booth at the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival October 16 and 17, from 10am - 5pm for the final scheduled event of 1999. The event is free and available to all children with parent permission.
Each child leaves the free event with a bio-document containing a digitized photograph, fingerprints, non-threatening child safety tips, an option free "Do-It-Yourself DNA Collection Kit" and a nine-point action plan on what to do if children disappear. The KlaasKids Foundation does not database information; the only record of the visit goes home with the children and their parents.
Safeway partnered with General Mills and other suppliers to sponsor the KlaasKids Child ID program. Safeway is one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America. The Company operates 1,656 stores in the United States and Canada.
