Ten, re:<SPECint95 & SPECfp95, two benchmarks that have been
around for four years already>

We all know that the results can be manipulated as desired
by rewriting the compiler. The compiler used for MPF
results was written by Intel within the last 4 months and
therefore qualifies as a "new benchmark."

To give you an idea how much compiler optimizations can
screw up SPECfp95, take a look results for the Alpha 21264
500 MHz, an Athlon 600 and an Intel PIII-600 running on 3
different Fortran compilers:

CPU_TYPE Linux egcs1.1.2 Intel For2.4(*) Digital For6.0a
Alpha500 22.8 n/a 39.6
Athlon-600 17.5 21.5 21.0
PIII-600 12.4 14.8 14.7

(*) - pre-PIII, no SSE optimizations

Notice how Digital's compiler just happens to boost the
Alpha score 50% more than everything else.
