Patrick-I tend to agree with the "next cycle" theory. I have a great deal of respect for Corrigan's management and it appears that he is seriously attacking the bet-the-company issue with the ramp-up for the next cycle syndrome. Silterra on the fab side and now Hitachi on the R&D side seem to me to be good strategic method of staying on the leading edge but getting use out of relationship capital and not only balance sheet hard equity. If successful, this strategy would significantly reduce the trough of the cycle and increase the ROE for the benefit of us shareholders.
On the INTC/DSP issue why wouldn't QCOM and INTC already have something satisfactory worked out? QCOM is exiting the handset business and wants to have a high-volume mfg. co. to drive costs down and volume up. Who better than INTC? If LSI was ever going to be a factor in CDMA the margins just got lowered IMO but that doesn't mean it won't be a viable business for us.

Best regards,

Mike
