Peter, that was the point of the post I made; maybe I wasn't clear. I wasn't suggesting that ATT would junk its system. But, as it migrates to 3G, it makes little sense for ATT to maintain an almost "proprietary" infra system that ought to cost more for the upgrades and changes to handle data, if few others use it--that migrating to cdma allows ATT to take advantage of the infra manufacturers' production efficiencies and therefore ability to offer 3G upgrade and modifications at relatively cheaper prices. And, thus, the debate over technological superiority may be somewhat irrelevant. Even if ATT could develop equivalent performance, buying infra for a system that is not in wide production simply costs more.
