Bill, agree with you on conspiracy theories. It reminds me of George Orwell admitting to ascribing all sorts of conspiracy theories to his enemies, then being puzzled that he wasn't able to come up with any to serve his own purposes. The cock-up theory is usually a more parsimonious than any conspiracy. Still not totally convinced concerning phones - even if they contain a mapping device - without a map, they need very little memory. The map could be read-only.
