The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods increased 1.1 percent in September, seasonally adjusted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today.

Among finished goods, the index for finished goods other than foods
and energy advanced 0.8 percent, after posting a 0.1-percent decline a
month earlier.


Industrial Production for Sept. = -0.3%
Capacity Utilizatoin = 80.3

Industrial production, which had risen 1 percent over July and August, declined 0.3 percent in September. Hurricane Floyd held down the production of electricity, motor vehicles, and some other goods; excluding the effects of the hurricane, industrial production would have posted a small increase.
The rate of capacity utilization for total industry declined 0.4 percentage point, to 80.3 percent, in September, but was little changed from the rates that had prevailed in the first half of the year.
