I agree. It comes down to a question of confidence IMHO. When the general market was strong and advancing then I think most investors were willing to trust management and pooling accounting. Now that the market is weak it makes people nervous. Less competent management has failed in mergers that use this type of accounting. That is why Buffett advised people to buy a company that could be run by an idiot - because eventually it will be. However, when I see a management team that impresses me I will buy it until that team is split up.

As far as investing against the large funds; obviously that is what I am doing. If I did not choose to do that then I would just hand my money over to them and not buy individual stocks. I am using my judgement and betting that they are selling for the wrong reasons. If I did not think that a seller was wrong then I would not be able to buy anything.

Just some thoughts. I hope everybody gets through this unharmed.
