Yes, GSM is the European mobile phone standard air interface. TDMA is used mostly by ATT and some other operators in the US and Latin America. CDMA is mostly US, Korea, and rapidly spreading; when 3G arrives in a few years it will be everywhere. Palm's role in all this is its wonderful pen interface: the ability to input text and manipulate information on small screens with relative ease using a small stylus. This transcends air interface standards. Every device that has a small screen and a need to create messages and manipulate information on it needs it.
