;-)

I'm not sure that any of this ever got sorted out. And I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say, and not say, after departing. I can probably give my "perspective" or speculate about what goes on ...

IMHO, Novell started to go through some steps to try and figure this out about the time that Eric came on. I was copied on numerous mails which indicated a specific policy being developed, however I was not privy to the results of that effort. I commented on several of the mails, explaining my perspective.

I felt that instead of a single spokesperson spewing canned responses and comments, the company should work to become more "Internet oriented" and to empower *all* of the employees to participate on behalf of the company. The only things to fear in this situation are employees that are not happy about the company or directions and decisions, but if you are not afraid of the truth, and are prepared to deal with it, then there should be no problem. If anything, it would be through these postings and comments that the company could learn where to address issues ...

I believe that the "conservative" aspects of Novell, not encouraging employee participation, not educating "how to", but instead saying "don't you dare", are root issues that the company still needs to deal with.

Microsoft is full of people who always "push limits" ... sometimes to the point of crossing lines ... I don't know of the last time that I saw this at Novell ... well, except that people tell me that I have from time to time ... ;-)
