Totally!! agree, WS....those of us who have GNET long are fortunate indeed...Some musing....

Searching for clarity or enlightenment here....
When Mr. Greenspan speaks, as a paid employee of our government, and knowing
that people and world-wide markets listen to his words, as representing our
government's views.....does he speak intending to send invested funds up? or down?
or think that nothing will happen as a result of his words...??

Looked up the word "manipulation" ----other 'like' words are:
Ruse, direction, deception, maneuver, machination, orchestration, stratagem,
tampering..

Most private industry workers today do not have company paid pension plans. The
interest at banks at 2-4% simply isn't adequate, or an intelligent investment, IMO.
Again, taxes far outstrip any gains here. Most workers today try to invest any spare
funds (after taxes of course) into mutual funds, bonds, stock market, etc. They are
trying as much as they possibly can in today's environment to provide the basics,
education, and retirement funds for themselves and their families.

Most American companies today are 'lean and mean' employee wise. The cost of
hiring and keeping employees is very expensive (again taxes of all sorts, vacation, sick
leave, hiring replacement help while maintaining employee on payroll during absence,
etc. etc.)

The cost of sales to inventories actually fell in August to lowest levels (see today's
news). Again, taxes have something to do with this, I believe.

Tobacco, auto's and energy listed today as part of the wholesale costs going
up....other wise it was "relatively quiet," the reports say.... Tobacco???? The
government pays for subsidies to the growers, and taxes users of the product for
usage, and fines the companies who process and sell it, and then uses the taxes for
other programs ????? Are we in the story "Alice in Wonderland?"

Consumers---Should we buy or not? If we buy, *f*e*a*r of inflation happens.....we
we don't buy.....the bottom drops out.... Make up OUR mind....

Asked "askjeeves.com" "What percentage of taxpayers pay 75% of all taxes in the
US"
One of the answers: Top 25% of taxpayers pay 80% of the taxes. The bottom 50%
of taxpayers pay 4.3% of the taxes.

How much do you pay?

Just my thoughts today...
