ABC (Saturdays, 10 p.m. ET)

ABC invokes the tradition of Alfred Hitchcock
Presents and The Twilight Zone in promoting this
anthology series that follows a high-caliber
semiautomatic as it passes from owner to owner.
Believe the hype.

The April 12 premiere, written by coexecutive
producer James Sadwith (director of 1992's CBS
miniseries Sinatra) and directed by James Foley
(Glengarry Glen Ross), is a funny but foreboding
satire about a failed actor (Daniel Stern) who
becomes a media sensation after capturing a
conve-nience-store robber. He insists on playing
himself in the inevitable TV movie, with the part of
his loyal wife (Kathy Baker) sexed up to fit cover girl
Kathy Ireland. Don't say it could not happen. A
future episode (air date not announced), written
and directed by Sadwith, stars Rosanna Arquette
and Peter Horton in the tightly woven tale of a
bored housewife, a cuckolded husband, a
manipulative writer, a political assassin and the
pearl-handled firearm that links their fortunes.

Another coexecutive producer for the series is
movie auteur Robert Altman (The Player), and one
of the six scheduled episodes will bear his
directorial stamp. We'd like to see Gun stay in
circulation a lot longer.
