Re: LBJ The definitive biography is Robert Caro's Means of Ascent (winner of awards) which detailed LBJ's global corruption and his expertise at stealing elections. Particularly noteworthy is how he stole the 1948 election for the Senate from Texas icon, the former governor and honest man Coke Stevenson with the help of political fixer Abe Fortas and I believe, Justice Hugo Black. LBJ even joked about it in later years. I believe that Fortas was blocked from becoming Chief Justice in the late 1960's in what was apparently a deal between LBJ and the despicable Earl Warren to keep Nixon from naming the new Chief Justice. It failed, largely because of Strom Thurmond and Fortas later was forced to resign from the Court when his financial improprieties became known. Also detailed is how LBJ faked his military record and stole his broadcast licenses, becoming a millionaire.
