I failed to point out a personal (hopefully significant) observation. The companies that are mentioned in these pr's are themselves significant battery users: Mitsubishi Electric Corp, Sony Corp, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd, and Sanyo Electric Co Ltd. They are essentially guaranteeing themselves batteries so consumers can operate (thus buy) their equipment. What about hardware companies that don't make batteries?
