We might have to agree to disagree on this point. Take away Willie Mays or Bob Hope and someone will step up and become America's darling. The publicity machine can always create another superstar. The whole system is artificial and corrupt imo.
But a von Braun or a Whittle or a Kelly Johnson cannot be duplicated by printing gushy reviews. These people MADE groundbreaking stuff, and that puts them head and shoulders above the entertainers, no matter how "loved" the entertainers are.
