Little Words -- An Essay Anglo-Saxon words speak to us more truly and more powerfully than do the European Creole words which make up the rest of the English Vocabulary. Notice how "Shut the fornication up" lacks the power of the version using the Anglo-Saxon term. And notice how much beefier a word "beef" is than its European Creole cousin "veal." Compare "effete affections" with "acting like a girl." I'm not against using the Latin, Greek and French rooted and derived words which make English so rich a language. I'm just against them using me. PCM
